Name: Velma Dinkley Door: door pass - Dominant Canon: Scooby-Doo (specifically the live action adaptations from 2002 and 2004) Canon Point: As the tar monster suffocates her at the end of Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed. Age: Mid-20s Appearance: Here History: here & here Personality: [+] INTELLIGENT: A nerdy girl, science fiend, and probably the best person to call for the answer to a trivia question, Velma is known for her sharp wit and knowledge of just about everything. She is the 'smart one' in the gang, and is typically the one to come up with the plan to capture and unmask the villain, ever since their early days as a mystery solving team. The lack of any recognition of her contributions ultimately led to her quitting and the group splitting up. During the years where the group was on hiatus, Velma works for NASA developing hydropowered missile defense systems, a job that reasonably requires at least a mechanical engineering background. Her real passion, which she returns to the moment the opportunity presents itself, remains solving mysteries. As it is seen during the live action movies, Velma’s intellectual talents range from reading ancient Sumerian, building complex and nuanced inventions, to solving a high level physics calculations in her head while avoiding the attacks of a monster. This includes pulling reference values from memory. She's also the engineer of gadgets and machines used in said plans as well as their headquarters. At the end of the day, Velma is always looking for a way to find a solution to a problem or optimize an already existing one. [-] ARROGANT: Velma's not humble when it comes to her smarts, and often comes off as abrasive and arrogant. When she knows she's right and has facts on her side, she finds no need to sugar-coat the delivery. If anything, she's apt to add sarcasm or a dry quip to throw some added insult to injury, especially when unmasking creepy bad people, liars, and swindlers. When they arrive to Spooky Island, Velma confidently claims that she's going to be the one to solve the mystery, alone. Later, she smugly points out the three projectors creating the image of the 'monster spirit' in the fire, even while under the looming intimidation of a scary, evil-coded dude. She's the sort that if she's actually putting down money in a bet, then it's an ill-advised to go against her because she already knows the answer. Through every mystery they solve, it's clear that she relishes in the reveal and does not waver in highlighting how the Evil Masked Figure managed to hoodwink everyone, except her of course. [-] AWKWARD: With her high intelligence comes large dose of awkwardness, both when she's comfortable around her people (the gang) and around strangers. Girl's just a decent amount of weird, from the rigid way she stands and walks with her hands behind her back, interjects into conversations abruptly, and doesn't always pick up on social cues during interactions. When they're celebrating solving the mystery on Spooky Island, a cute boy that's previously flirted with her and otherwise shown interest leans in close as though to kiss her. Not only did she not pick up on the earlier flirting, but her reaction is to say: "You're fogging up my glasses!" before punching him in the arm while snort-laughing, oblivious to the fact that they were having an intimate moment. She's also not particularly great at handling surprise social visits, as seen when she bodily yeets herself behind a couch the moment her crush shows up at the Mystery Incorporated headquarters to talk to her. Ultimately crawling under multiple pieces of furniture through several rooms as she tries to simply hid from the interaction. [-] INSECURE: Her self-value outside of her brain is relatively low, and she brings attention to where she feels she lacks heavily in highlighting her friends' strengths that she wishes she had throughout both movies. Daphne's beauty and ability to defend herself as well as Shaggy and Scooby's ability to be themselves no matter what others think of them. She's admits to Daphne that she doesn't feel physically beautiful or hot, even when she's actively the object of someone's interest. Given her lack of positive experiences with dating or love, Velma finds it difficult to accept compliments and genuine affection. In fact, she's so insecure in herself that she allows Daphne to dress her in a full pleather body suit, give her hair extensions, and otherwise encompass a mysterious, 'sexy' object of desire. Shockingly, this does not go over well, nor does it actively boost her confidence. Quite the opposite actually. Powers and Abilities: She’s a genius and has the ability to wear bright orange unflinchingly. Inventory: - The book on monsters taken from Wickles' mansion. - A box of Scooby Snacks. - An extra pair of her prescription glasses. Samples: TDM Top Level & text to action thread |
